WORKPLACE COACHING
Contracted by companies to help employees who need
to improve performance in the workplace, change problematic behavior,
and/or improve workplace relationships. Also contracted by companies
to support, retain, and reward outstanding performers.
It
begins with an assessment that often originates either from the individual's
superior, a performance review, a 360-degree feedback process or informal
data gathered by the individual. The focus then moves to designing
objectives and working toward accomplishing them. At the same time
the approach used integrates work with the demands of family, community,
and other pursuits or talents that continue to need attention or expression.
Throughout
the coaching process the client owns the agenda, for each meeting
as well as for the process as a whole. During the meeting the client,
with my support as coach, focuses on accomplished results, best
practices that led to these results, and obstacles that interfered
with success. Then I help the client to determine the next
specific desired results and their order of priority. These desired
results become the objectives for the time period between this meeting
and the next meeting.
Although the basic process is the same for all clients, the approach
varies depending on the goals of the organization, the skills in need
of development, and the client's learning style and personality. The
amount of time necessary to accomplish the objectives also depends
on these differences.
